“Feeling fantastic” – Marc’s story
Marc met with Employment Adviser, Darren, when joining Better Working Futures, and from there they built a great working relationship together. Marc felt comfortable and at ease with Darren, and shared how he found it difficult to identify suitable employment that would work with his health conditions – both physical and mental.
Marc sustained multiple head injuries as a child from a car accident, which resulted in injury to his brain. Later in life, he was involved in an industrial accident whilst at work, leaving damage to his knees, which has led to both knees being replaced.
Since being out of work from his knee operation, Marc had struggled with his mental health and anxiety, and he had lost confidence and motivation to begin his job search. With the support of Darren, and Skills Trainer Martin, Marc attended various sessions and workshops to focus on building up his confidence and upskilling to become ‘job ready’.
Marc completed in-house courses through Better Working Futures on ‘Understanding and Managing Anxiety’ which also helped to build his confidence and optimism about improving his life through work, without the fear that this would affect his health.
Darren then assisted Marc with interview preparation and CV updates, tailoring his support around the areas Marc needed when applying for jobs. He told us: “Marc attended several interviews without success. His resilience however remained strong, and he eventually succeeded in finding work with a large wholesaler as front of house team member. To say Marc is happy is an understatement!”
Marc recently shared: “I feel much happier and more confident, and I’m looking forward to what the future brings. Darren has been a top bloke! And he has always been there when I have needed to talk. Everyone else in the office has been so helpful - especially Ruth, who I have often spoken to. I’m feeling fantastic!”
