Computer confidence – Manija’s story
Manija joined Better Working Futures because she had been unemployed for several years, and she felt that having low-level English and IT skills affected her ability to job search independently.
Manija was interested in pursuing job roles in the care, cleaning, and warehousing sectors, but she found the use of computers to apply for jobs difficult.
Manija’s Employment Adviser, Vicky, enrolled her onto our Digital Inclusion course, which supports participants to confidently use computers and the internet. The course enabled Manija to set up her own email account, where she learned how to confidently correspond over emails.
Vicky made sure she was always available to support Manija, who sometimes felt anxious, during group and job search sessions. She said:
“Completing the Digital Inclusion course boosted Manija’s confidence not only in herself but towards her job searching too; she then felt able to independently search for relevant jobs online using the computer.”
Each week during her appointments, Manija was supported with checking and responding to her emails by Vicky and the team. Manija used her new IT skills to find a cleaning role at an office close to her home, which she applied for and was successful at her interview!
Manija told us:
“If it wasn’t for Better Working Futures I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am so grateful for all the help and support that I have received, Vicky and the team have always made me feel welcome when visiting the office!”
